Domaine Sebastien Treuillet Pouilly Fume' 2012

New Zealand sauvignon blanc devotees are usually surprised by the subdued mineral approach of the wines from the Loire Valley in France. In the cool northerly latitude of the Loire Valley, the vines struggle for ripeness and the flavours are less tropical than their new world counterparts. Sebastian Treuillet was originally a cereal farmer before he bought small vineyards. Treuillet's 2012 Pouilly Fume has aromas of raw nashi pear and lemon zest with a subtle wet chalk character sitting below. The palate is crisp, fresh and lightly textured on the entry with flavours of green apple and a delicate herbal note of crushed blackcurrant leaf and chervil. Chill this wine to 10 degrees celsius to promote it's fresh acidity. Best enjoyed with crisp salads or grilled white fish.
